About Me.

Hello, I'm Ryan! Nice to meet you!

I am a full stack web developer with a background in chemical engineering. I was first introduced to programing when I attended the HackEd hackathon hosted at the University of Alberta. Being able to see the software engineers on my team create an idea to life was really cool to see and so I added a new task to my bucket list: be able to create my own app.

I studied programing during my free time while working and really enjoyed learning how to code and the problem solving aspect of it so I decided to make a career change!

I am continuously trying to learn and improve my skils as a software developer by learning new languages, frameworks and libraries!

I am currently open to any software engineering / web development opportunities!

Crew Chat

Crew Chat is a messenging application focused on improving user experience for group chats. My personal goals for this project were to learn React and learn how to implement Socket.io for real-time messaging. Crew Chat has functions such as real-time polls for you and your friends or colleagues to vote on 'important' matters, events to mark down important due dates or gatherings, and upload images and documents.

strEAT Finder

strEAT Finder brings food lovers and local food trucks together. Search for food trucks in your area and always know where they are in the neighbourhood. Favourite the ones you want to keep tabs on and discover new ones! Food trucks are able to provide real time locations of where they are so their regulars will know where to find them. My personal goals for this project were to learn the Django framework and be able to work with PostgreSQL.

HitchHike

HytchHike is a ridesharing platform for users who want to travel from city to city. My personal goals for this project were to learn the MEN stack and boostrap framework as well as learn how to work with a RESTful API. I designed the frontend using a mobile-first approach and utilized various Google APIs such as the Google Places API for autocomplete funcionality, the Google Maps API to display a map with direction and Google Distance Matrix API to calculate the distance between two locations and estimate the arrival time.

Battleship vs AI is a classic game of battle versus a programmed computer. My personal goals for this project were to strengthen my frontend development skills and to learn a frontend API. I learned and utilized the HTML Drag and Drop API to let users drag and drop their ships in any location.
